Summer Recreation Day Camp

Grades 1 - 6

2021 Information Sheet

Description:
The summer day camp is a program run by the Town of Chester Recreation.  The Town of Chester Recreation summer day camp is all about having fun. Campers have the opportunity to explore nature, find new talents, try new activities and make lasting friendships and memories.

As a participant in our camp, your child will be positively impacted by great programs and caring staff. Our counselors are dedicated to ensuring a safe atmosphere while making sure your child enjoys themselves to the fullest extent. The campers are grouped by grade (1-6) and stay with their group as they rotate through the daily activities.

Under the new COVID guidelines, POD size of campers is 15, we will limit to 12 per POD
POD's are required to stay together at all times, and not mingle, socialize, or approach others.  This holds for lunch times also.  Unfortunately children of the same family may not join siblings of other POD's.

There will be NO toys, electronics, stuffed animals, etc.,  allowed to be brought in from home.  This is also stated in CDC COVID guidelines.

Frequent and thorough hand hygiene for campers is required.  We will have stations throughout for this.

The daily itinerary is split into activities including lunch.

The campers will have fun playing various games, participating in water fun, and shows that we bring to the camp.

The schedule for each day is the same but we incorporate specialty days into the program to keep the campers interested, entertained and having fun.  Some of our specialty days include Halloween in July, summer birthday party, 80’s day, Patriotic Day, silly hair day, tie dye Tuesday, wet & wild Wednesday, you get the picture.

Active Variety – This is when campers can play at the playground, take nature walks, play group games.

Group Sports – All the favorites – capture the flag, relay races, volleyball, pickleball, noodle hockey, camp Olympics, as well as variations on the basics.  Crab walk soccer, beanbag basketball, Frisbee golf and lots more. On those really hot days we’ll incorporate water into our sports!

Quiet Variety – A little downtime is a good thing.  This is where campers can play board games, read, play with Legos, make lanyards and color.

Camp Games –This is where the dance parties happen and other games like charades, seven up and hide and seek are played.

New York State requires 1 counselor for every 12 children.  To keep our camp safe we have a 1:10 counselor to camper ratio. With "POD" size not to exceed 15 campers.

No Bully Zone:
Our camp has a strict No Bullying Policy that is explained to the campers during orientation.  Bullying of any sort will not be tolerated at our camp.  If any of the counselors witness or are told about a bullying situation the campers involved will be spoken to immediately by the Camp Director.  The Camp Director will hear both sides and decide how best to handle the situation.  Sometimes just a warning is needed. Parents will be informed at the end of the day if their child was involved in any situation.

Eligibility:
All children entering grades 1 through 6 in September 2021 may participate.  Children may be enrolled for more than one session.  Enrollment is on a first come, first served basis.  However, if enrollment exceeds capacity Chester residents will be given priority.  If necessary, a waiting list will be created for each session.

2021 Dates:

Session 1         June 26 – July 9
Session 2         July 12 – July 23
Session 3         July 26 – August 6

CAMP WEATHER POLICY:
We will have the pavilion and other shelter available to us.
In the case where inclement weather is predicted for the day camp will be canceled.  In case of severe weather, parents/guardians will be notified that campers must be picked up immediately.  If you will not be in the area during camp hours please be sure to have someone available to pick up your child in case of an early closing. A plan B is always a good idea!

DROP OFF:  Drop off procedure will be different this year due to COVID and that information will be forthcoming in an email to parents/guardians.  Campers may NOT be signed in before 8:25 am.  Our counselors will be busy setting up activities for the day and will not be available to be responsible for campers before 8:25 am.  For camper safety we will put up barricades at 9:00 am at the entrance to the park.  If you need to drop your camper off after 9:00 please proceed as far as you can and walk down to camp.  Please do not try to move the barricades or try to drive around them.  Some activities take place in the parking area and we cannot have cars in that area.
